History
The Three Fold Land
Birth and Adolescence
Ziel was born by Yenien Alcairn, a Shienaran noblewoman, and Asha'man Cahar al'Rhan. His mother had gone into the Three Fold Land after being exiled and her husband had died while searching tel'aran'rhiod. She had tried to go to surrounding nations but they turned their backs on her. She had no other place to go. She wondered the Three Fold Land for 3 days with very little water. She had only used it when her head burned or her mouth was starched almost to the point of not being able to breath. She had run out of water and still she wondered for another day. Finnally she saw an Aiel clan further ahead so she kept walking. Nearly 100 spans from the encampment she collapsed. An Aiel man by the name of Khalnin saw her fall and ran to her with water. He saw that she was pregnant and turned to get more water. Yenien shook her head and told the man to help her. He nodded and helped to deliver the child. He was born with silver hair and eyes of blood. His mother called him an albino and that this was a bad omen. Still she smilled and held him close. They were takin to the camp and rested and were given shade and water. In the shade of Khalnin's tent she named her child, "I will name you Ziel. For you are truly the spirit that kept me going here. I truly wish that you will fight against the shadow. Perhaps you will be Asha'man like your father...i can only pray to the creator that it is true." Khalnin had heard her words from outside the tent and nodded his silent agreement. I will sware a water oath that i will see to that. I sware. Two days after he was born his mother died of poison from a spider white as snow and eyes red as the deep ruby. Khalnin took Ziel and looked into his eyes and smiled with mixture of hope and sadness for the child losing his mother, and said, "Ziel of the house of al'Rhan, i will raise you in the way of the Aiel and you will fight the shadow just as your mother wished it. I promise you child it is so." With that Ziel's house was baried deap in his uncontious where it would sit idle as he was raised by a member of the Imran sept of the Shaarad Aiel.
As Ziel entered adolescence he always loved weapons and how his elders danced with them. He always watched wide eyed and hungry for knowledge of how to use these weapons. He always looked for a weapon that he couldn't describe. At the age of five Ziel received his first weapons, his twin daggers with a wolf's head raised to the moon inscribed in the blade. He trained every day with the weapons and trained with sticks of equal size against the other boys his age. When he was the age of seven Ziel could only loose to one boy, Taef. Taef was a year older than Ziel and was faster and stronger. They soon became rivals and competed for everything. Taef would always try to hurt Ziel by throwing stones or hitting him in the back of the neck when he wasn't looking. Ziel soon learned to look everywhere at once and carried his daggers everywhere he went. As soon as Taef would show up Ziel would touch his daggers at his waist and if the boy would come at him with a stick Ziel would block the attack usually snapping the stick with it, or if the boy throw stones Ziel he would let go of his daggers and lift his arms to catch the stones, which he always did.
Finally Ziel challenged Taef to a match choose any weapon he wanted and if Ziel won Taefk would never bother him again but if Taef won Ziel would forfeit his twin daggers. The boy chose the quarter staff. Ziel accepted and they went to find two sticks that would serve as staffs. The boy found one of the right size, and so did Ziel. Ziel tested the stick aga
inst a rock and found that it was sturdy. Ziel turned towards Taefk just as the boy ran at Ziel. Just like the coward to run now. Ziel readied the staff for a sweep across the legs, a straight attack, or a flying attack. Ziel had seen this happen to many times to young men who thought they could challenge his father. Ziel's mind was as calm as the wind and he knew what direction the boy was going to turn by the way he moved his feet. Ziel took the stick and just as Taef moved to his left Ziel struck the boy directly in the side with the blunter end of the stick. Ziel then took the stick out of the boy's side and turned the stick over to hit him in the back to fell him. Ziel had seen his father do this to so many young men to win fast, simple, and without to much blood.
Taef stood up and took his stick up again and ran at Ziel just as Ziel turned his back, and right before Taef struck Ziel, Taef's father stepped in between them and took his sons "staff." He turned to Ziel and looked into his red eyes smiled and said, "My son will never bother you again Ziel. You have proven yourself...i think we better get you a better staff. Come with me." Ziel nodded and followed the man to a tent. They entered and Ziel's eyes widened. Almost every weapon he had ever seen was in this tent. He stared wide eyed around him and turned to the man. He tried to say something but words never came out. The man smiled and rolled his eyes over Ziel checking for height. He nodded and went over to a corner and took out a staff, it was Ziel's height and at one end it had metal shaped into a point. Ziel thanked the man and ran out of the tent smiling. When he returned to his father he told him of what had happened and he smiled and told Ziel that he would have to train with that weapon and learn to perfect that as well as his daggers. Ziel did and trained for six years honing his skills.
Teenage years
At the age of 13 Ziel had perfected his quarterstaff and dagger techniques and only those that had learned more about the ways of the earth could fell him. He was sent out one day as a scout to find a good place for shelter from the coming sandstorm. Ziel did and when he found a place with not only some shelter but a small reservoir of water, Ziel smiled and turned to return when he fell to the earth. His body felt cold as a winter night, but he also knew that his temperature was a hot as the clay on a summer day. He was sapped of all strength and could not move to save his life. Only by pure luck did the member of another clan find him. They took him in and sheltered him as while he was feverish. They told him he would not live and he kept spouting out words, battle cries of his city. The bloodline of his mother was so straight that in his unconscious Ziel knew everything about his ancestors on that half. And the day before he returned to normal he saw a man holding a weapon that shone like the sun in his hands. The man he knew as Aiel but he had never seen a weapon like that. Others around him held weapons identical but were made of steel. The man used the sword to make fire, lightning, earth explode and more. Words came to his mind to tell him what he saw, 'the Dragon Reborn', he could also see it was He Who Comes With the Dawn by the two dragons on his arms.
A week after he had fallen to the earth Ziel opened his eyes and he felt a light behind him that he could barely make out. As soon as Ziel woke fully and his mind raced with thoughts of what he had seen the light seemed to vanish. Ziel stood up and found his daggers and quarterstaff. He had received a new quarterstaff every time he grew out of his old one, and since Ziel had grown to his full height, he would not receive another staff. He walked out of the tent and looked around him. He didn't recognize anyone of his clan. A man walked up to Ziel and nodded towards him, Ziel nodded back and seemed to recognize this man as a clan chief. As if to confirm his thoughts the man said, "My name is Havd. I am the clan chief of the Taardad Aiel. Our scouts found you lying in the dirt with a fever while he shook with cold. I hope you are feeling better." Ziel nodded and asked told the man, "My name is Ziel of the Imran sept of the Shaarad Aiel. I'm sorry if I was any inconvenience towards you. I was sent as a scout for shelter against the sandstorm and i fell to the earth. I can only remember fragments of what happened after that...what's wrong?" Havd's face had become confused and he was toying with his own daggers that he had at his waist. He shook his head and told Ziel, "There was no sandstorm. I understand there was a Wise One traveling with your clan that can foretell the weather...but there was no storm. I'm sorry. We will help you find your clan if you so desire." Now it was Ziel's turn to shake his head. The woman had never been wrong, never. How could she be wrong this time, of all times. They must think I'm dead...i can't return to them, i can't. i have to leave the Three Fold Land...i have to. Ziel then told the clan chief what he had seen while he had dreamed and the man's face tightened. He shook his head and told Ziel of He who comes with the dawn and how he freed them from the Three Fold Land. Ziel nodded and took in all of the knowledge, he learned about swords and how those were the only weapons the Aiel would not use, because they were made for killing. He learnt of Tarmon Gai'don and of saidin and saidar being used in harmony once again since the breaking. Ziel nodded and told the man of what he meant to do. Havd seemed to understand and told Ziel that he wanted to give him a gift. The man took Ziel to a tent similar to the one he just came out of. He disappeared inside and came back holding a weapon that Ziel recognized but could not put a name to. The weapon was a staff but at the top there was a scythe. The wood looked like it was burnt black as night, yet it was sturdy as if the wood was still alive, and at the top of the shaft he saw the outline of a black bird and along the shaft there were words that were silver and stood out against the black yet they were written in a script that Ziel could not read. Havd gave Ziel the weapon and when he looked at the blade itself he saw the same bird in scripted that was on the staff part. The man told Ziel it was an ashandari blade and that it should become very useful to him. Ziel smiled at the man and thanked him. He gave the man his quarterstaff and told him, " My father is named Khalnin. if you ever see him can you please give this to him and tell him i live. He is no doubt worried." The man nodded and Ziel turned and ran away towards the Spine of the World, towards a new life.
Outside The Three Fold Land
As Ziel climbed over the last boulder of the Spine of the World he looked down the side of the mountain he was on and set eyes on a river. He was astounded by the water. He had never laid eyes on it before but he also knew that he had somehow. Ziel shook his head and ran down the mountain skipping fallen rocks and jumping over boulders. In about fifteen minutes Ziel was at the bottom of the mountain and he smiled at his progress. He continued running until he came to the river. He sat down beside it and drank from it. It was fresh, clear, and the taste was better than anything he had ever had. Ziel stood up and he could hear rustling in the bushes. He looked around and took up the weapon Havd gave him. He had practiced with it a bit and it felt better in his hands than his staff. Ziel turned to a bush just before a bird flew out of it. He could also pick up the whiff of sweat. Salt and water mixed with the impurities of men. He never heard the man come behind him and he felt a hard thump on the back of his neck and all was dark.
Ziel awoke and felt his hands and his feat tied together his mouth was gagged and his weapons were on a wall were he could not reach them. He looked around the room and saw on man. He was big and Ziel could tell that this man could dance if his life depended on it. And it would if Ziel got out of these ropes. The man noticed Ziel was awake and told him
it was useless. He was on a ship headed for Tear and that as soon as they got there they would sell him to a wealthy merchant who needed a strong fast worker. Ziel clenched his teeth and felt the fabric of the gag rip. As soon as Ziel ripped the fabric he told the man that he would escape no matter what. Ziel had heard of swimming before and he dreaded the idea of doing this more than facing a shadowspawn. He knew if he could get free and get his weapons then it would be ok. He also knew that he would have to placate the man. He had to get at least close to Tear. He grimaced and turned himself over and resentfully fell asleep.
About a week of whippings and bread and little water the man came into the room and told him that they would soon dock in Tear. This was Ziel's only chance to escape, and for the first time he trusted luck more than his own skills. He focused on his daggers. And he felt himself become drawn into total darkness. There was only a void and a light behind him. Ziel reached for the light and felt it burn through his veins he reached out to his daggers and soon felt the rope around his arms and legs tear and the daggers were in his hand. Ziel jumped up and as he did so the ship hit a sand bank and the man toppled. Ziel's feet touched the floor and as soon as they did Ziel ran towards the door. Ziel sheathed his daggers and took his ashandari blade and hit the man in the back of the neck with the blunt side of the blade. He saw the man slump down and he ran out the door. His Aiel garb was dirty with blood and sweat and he knew the water would clean it. He ran through the hallways towards where he heard wind come from. He got to the top of the ship and he saw men take up swords and surrounded him on all side except the side facing the edge of the ship. Ziel turned towards the water and jumped into the river.
Water came up to meet Ziel and as it did Ziel kicked his legs wildly trying not to die. He wanted to die in the Three Fold Land, not in the river. He turned towards the city and swam towards it. He climbed onto the dock and just as he did so, swords were put to his neck and they demanded to know what he was doing. Ziel told them and they didn't believe him. They took him by the arm and led him to a large stone. He knew this as the Stone of Tear that Havd told him 'He who Comes with the Dawn' took and claimed Calandor, the sword that can not be touched, the sword that is not a sword.
He was led through winding hallways lit with sullen lamps. He looked from side to side always expecting something that wasn't there. He was led into a large room where men decored in silk and precious jewels sat. They had the air of importance and he knew these were the high lords of tear that the men on the ship talked about selling Ziel to. The men holding him let go of Ziel and Ziel quickly made an awkward bow. He wanted to get out of there and as fast as possible. One of the high lords looked at the guards paying no attention to Ziel asked him, "Sharam why have you brought me this Aiel. I have more important things to worry about than them." The guard then told the high lord that Ziel came onto the Stone part of the docks and wore weapons. The high lord didn't ask Ziel for his story but instead he was taken below the stone into a cell. They gave him his weapons so that he could "play" with them if he wanted to. They laughed and shut the door behind them.
Ziel made a half grin and thought to himself they will die, i will see to that. Ziel took his ashandari blade and stood up. He went to inspect the cell, they was no way out he knew that as soon as he touched the wall. He sighed and went over to the wall and sat down. He wanted to know what he had done on the ship that had aloud him to escape. He sat cross legged and searched for that void. He then remembered that he was absent of all emotion. He could think of only one thing that could destroy and that was fire. He fed all of his emotions into a flame and soon he found the void that he longed for. He saw the light behind him and he reached for it. His fingers slipping through the light, he tried again, and again. Each time he failed. Finally before he gave up he tried again and he grasped it. He felt alive. He put his hand in front of him and imagined a ball of light. Soon he felt a pulse of light in front of him that grew larger and larger the more he fed into it. Ziel let it grow until it threatened to swallow up the room, and he managed to cut himself off from the light. He sighed and went to sleep feeling a since of loss.
For two years Ziel did nothing but train and learn to use this power. He would only be given bread and water to eat and drink, and on feast days he would be given cold meat and watered down ale. Ziel had learned that the guards that brought him had both died from an arrow while in the city. Ziel smiled at this and thought that it served them right. Ziel's hair had grown down to his waist since being in prison. He liked his hair long but he also liked his face clean shaven, so he would use his daggers to shave every morning. One morning while shaving Ziel cut his cheek and it took one full month to heal completely. Ziel had learned to use this power and found out that he could create objects out of this power. He had made a ring of light for himself. It was solid and fit him perfectly. He wore it on his middle finger on his right hand. He had also ran around the room to keep up his agility and he had done upside down push-ups to keep his strength up. He had done abdominal exercises to keep his stomach muscles tight. The only thing that you could tell wasn't Ziel was his hair.
One day while Ziel was doing crunches a man walked into his cell with two spear men and his own sword ready to use. The sword Ziel saw was long and thick; the man had to use both hands to wield it. He told Ziel that his prison time was over and that he could leave. Ziel nodded and took up his weapons and was led through the winding halls out into the day. The light hurt his eyes for a second but he soon became use to it. Ziel smiled and walked into the streets. Ziel walked towards the edge of Tear when he saw a young woman. She was the very beautiful and Ziel could feel something about her that he couldn't describe.
He walked over to her and told her his name. She smiled and told him her name and that she was going to Tar Valon. Her name was Addelyn al'Vera. As soon as she told him what house she was from he was almost takin a back. Ziel had heard of her and her father going to feasts held in the stone from the guards. The guards talked about her more than any other woman at those parties. The guards were almost as bad as serving girls when it came to gossip. Ziel smiled and they swapped cultures. He learned of the ways of the Teariens and she learned more about of the Aiel. Ziel realized that his hood was up and that she couldn't see his face or his hair. He smiled as they talked and he soon realized they were headed for the docks. Ever since that day on the boat Ziel hated water more than anything. He would only touch it to bathe and to drink. He also enjoyed the company of this woman. They smiled and told stories and soon Ziel reached the end of where he would go. He reached out and grasped the woman's arm and told her, "I will not go any farther. I do not like the water, but perhaps I will meet you again." He smiled at the biggest under statement he had ever made and as he did so the woman hugged him. Her breasts were soft on his. He hugged back and enjoyed that small amount of time. He had never been hugged before in his life. He smiled and ran in the opposite direction.
As he ran he thought about what he would do. He decided that he would visit Andor before he went to the black tower. He ran out of town and when the road became muddy he jumped onto the roofs of houses and ran on top of those. He soon reached the edge of town and jumped off. There was the world to see and he had little time to do it. He jumped into the woods and ran, he didn't look at what was around him his ring shone with brillianc
e and he enjoyed life. He needed to find different clothes though.
He soon ran into a village. The people there treated him hospitably and he told them that he needed different clothes. They asked him why he was asking them, they had no Aiel garbs. Ziel then told them that he wished to have clothes like the people of this region. They smiled and gave him black breeches with a fiery bird on the right leg, a black shirt with the same bird on the back, a silver cloak with the bird on the right chest, and black leather boots. The bird was threaded in gold every time and he knew that these were clothes fit for a king. He smiled and told them that he had not money to repay them with. They told him that they were gifts and were too fancy for their lives. Ziel shook his head and told them that he would work for them until he had paid them off. They told him that the cost for them was equal to a couple months work. Ziel nodded and agreed to work 4 months if they gave him work clothes as well. They smiled and gave him a red leather vest, breeches, and work boots. Ziel took them gratefully, bathed, and changed clothes.
Ziel had worked for about a month when he saw that a young girl had her eyes on him while he worked. He took no thought of it, and a week later as he was coming back from harvesting the crops the girl stopped him. She was very pretty she had golden hair and eyes like a blue bird. She smiled and told him simply that she liked him; she then stole a kiss from him and skipped off. He shook his head and went back. The next day there was a celebration of that year's harvest. They told him it was the best they had ever had and that he had paid his debt. He smiled and told them "No. I told you i would work for 3 more months and i will stick by my words. By the ogier's oath i swear it." At these words that girl's face brightened. He enjoyed that days festives and participated in the quarterstaff contest. He stripped out of his leather vest exposing his entire torso to the crowd. He smiled and took a staff about a foot taller than he was. He stood straight and allowed the man to attack first. The man ran at Ziel and swung his staff at Ziel's neck. Ziel calmly lifted the quarterstaff so that it connected with the other mans and stopped the blow. Before the man could do anything Ziel twisted the staff out of the man's hands and picked him up by the jaw and let him fall to the ground. He smiled at the man and helped him up. The man smiled and gave him a copper piece for beating him. Ziel smiled and continued to defeat everyone that challenged him.
At the end of the day there was a feast and Ziel decided that he didn't want to infringe on their feasting. As he turned to return to the room he was staying in that same girl stood in front of him and asked him to sit with her and meet her parents. Ziel smiled and said, "Only if you give me the curtesy of your name my lady." The girl giggled and told him her name was Railyn la'Cara. Ziel smiled and said, "My name is Ziel...Ziel al'Rhan." She smiled and led him to the table where her parents sat. Her father was the same man that he had beaten in the first round of the quarterstaff competition. He smiled as Railyn led Ziel to the table and said, "So this is the young man my daughter has been laying eyes on this last month. I knew it was a man because of that glazed expression on her face every time she returns to the ouch!" The man glared at the women sitting beside him and she said, "We are very pleased to have you with us. My name is Laurine and this oaf is Brahlm la'Cara. I see our daughter has gotten quite the liking towards you. Please tell me who your parents are so that we may speak." Ziel's heart beat raced as he searched for answers that were not there. The only thing that he could think of was a lie. He didn't want to lie to these people so he told the truth...at least, a version of it. He looked at Laurine and said, "I was kidnapped by brigands to be sold in Tear as a slave. I escaped just in time. I don't know where my father is, last i heard he joined the Aiel and is now in the Th...The Waste." Laurine's eyes cast a shadow and she said, "I'm sorry about that. I suppose we can talk later. Come to the square after the feast. I will be waiting for you." She then cast a sharp look at the man and they stood up and left Railyn and Ziel together. Ziel smiled and knew what was happening. He didn't know how he knew but he did, they were going to wed them. He didn't mind. He had figured out what he had from reading and he knew he could control it enough not to hurt anyone around him, or himself. He smiled at the girl and she smiled back, she was probably one year younger than he was, but she was beautiful. They ate in silence just enjoying each others company.
When they finished eating the girl leaned over and kissed Ziel stole up and ran off. Ziel smiled and also stood up to wash off. He had become use to water now. He enjoyed it actually. He went over to the basin for washing and he saw a young man walk over to Railyn and grab her arm. He was yelling at her and then he saw him slap her. He quickly turned around and bolted for the young man. He was smaller than Ziel and not nearly as strong. In less than 5 strides Ziel had the boy by his color and picked him up off the ground. Railyn sat on the ground with hands on her eyes weeping. The boys eyes widened in fear at what he had just done, and Ziel eyes flashed with anger. He brought the boy face close to his and whispered, if you ever touch her again, so much as lay one finger on her to harm her. You wont live another second. I will make sure of that. Now leave my sight." He half dropped half threw the boy and as soon as he was on the ground he ran. Ziel bent down and stroked Railyn's face and whispered, "hey, its al right. I wont let him or anyone else hurt you ever again. I swear on the ogiers oath on that. Railyn, you are too beautiful to be crying like this. Let's get you to your house." As Ziel said this Railyn's face went up and tears stopped. She hugged him and he hugged back she then whispered into his ear, "So, you love me?" Ziel nodded and whispered, "I do, more than life itself i do." They stayed like that for a couple minutes and then they stood up. They clasped their hands together and they went to her house.
As they came up to the door Ziel saw that there was still an imprint of a hand across her face and shook his head. Railyn opened the door and they walked into the house. Laurine's head sharply went up and before she realized who was with her said, "Railyn, do you lo...what happened to your face?! If that...Ziel? Is that you? I thought i told you to wait in the square. Did you do this to Railyn?! If you did i will make sure you never lay hands on another woman ever again!" Ziel smiled and shook his head and Railyn went over to her mother and explained everything to her, about the boy, and Ziel and what they said to each other. Her mother's face went from the look to kill, to beaming with happiness. She went over to Ziel took his hands and kissed him on both cheeks. She smiled at him and asked him when he would want the marriage ceremony. Ziel smiled and told them whatever time best coincided with their plans. She smiled and said, "Tomorrow. I will go and tell the mayor to announce it. I'm so pleased for you two." She got up and half ran towards the door. He looked over towards Railyn and smiled. He knew this was where he belonged. More than anything this is where he belonged. She smiled back at him and he felt alive, more so than even when he had saidin flow through him. He was in love.
The next day Ziel dressed in the clothes that were given to him, the bird of fire imprinted on everything. It was even on the back of the cloak which Ziel had just now noticed. Railyn was dressed in a dress white as snow and laced all around. The night before Ziel was making the perfect ring, he had some gold pieces that he melted with weaves of fire and molded them with earth and air into a perfect circle. He then heated it again and wove silver into it. And he was given a small jewel by the ma
yor that night. It was the deepest green he had ever seen. He inlayed it inside the ring and heated it up and melted everything together. He had cooled off the ring with water. Ziel's hair was at his waist and was brushed till it shone that morning. The mayor took them at the front of the arch and began the wedding ceremony, at the end Ziel gave Railyn the ring and she gave him one also. It was a perfect ring, it was simple gold but it was given to him by her, and he loved it the more because of that.
The next couple of months Ziel fell deeper in love with Railyn. She was not a tough woman, but all she had to do was ask him once to do something and it was done to the best of his ability. They were given a house next to Laurine and Brahlm as a wedding present. They enjoyed one another's company and when they were apart they rarely thought of anything but each other. One night Ziel returned to find the fire place burning and Railyn asleep on the floor. He smiled and sat in his chair. He took out his pipe and tabac and smoked in front of the fire. He thought he could see a face in the flame, but it was gone almost as soon as it was there and soon Railyn yelled and thrashed. Ziel dropped his pipe and dropped down to his wife and shook her until she woke up. She woke with a start and hugged Ziel and cried and whispering, "He knows, he knows. Light! He knows..." Ziel could guess as to who she was talking about. The sightblinder, the father of lies, Ba'alzamon. He squeezed her and told her he would never let anything happen to her as long as he had breath to breath.
2 months later while he was in the field working he felt a shadow rush over him, and he knew something was happening. He ran to the town and found half of it burning trollocs and myrdraal. He ran to His house and found it burning. He rushed inside and Railyn was lying on the ground blood covering her dress. She told him about her past as a darkfriend and how when she returned to the light Ba'alzamon always kept a closer eye on her. He had sent these things. She said she knew it would happen and told him his good clothes and his weapons were next to the door. The myrdraal didn't bother with them. Then through dying breaths she said, "Ziel, my love. Do not avenge me. I love you; now leave here before he takes you also." At this she leaned up and kissed his lips. The warmth he could feel drain away, and the life sweep past his grasp. Her lips fell away from his as timbers fell around them and her body went limp. Ziel looked into the hearth and saw the face of Ba'alzamon in it. He then channeled wind throughout the town to smother the flames, and absorbed everything around him. He didn't know how he did it but he could feel warmth spew into him from the fire. Soon everything was back to the way it was...except destroyed. Ziel walked out in front of the house and myrdraal looked at him in surprise. They were not expecting a channeler to stop them. He then imagined a sword of pure fire, and then it was there. Ziel charged at the myrdraal, he had learned only a couple sayings in the olde tongue from books, but he knew what his battle cry was now. As he ran at the myrdraal with his sword of fire he screamed, "Carai an Railyn la'Cara!" Ziel could feel his anger push more power into the sword making it stronger and sharper. He slashed down at the myrdraal and cut through its sword and into its body slicing it in half and watching the two halves burn. As he did this half of the trollocs fell to the ground. He then turned his eyes on the other myrdraal and said, "Go back to your master. Go back and tell him Ziel al'Rhan of the Taardad Aiel sent you. If he wants me i will be at the black tower. The shadow will fall fade! I will see to that." He turned to every trolloc and as his anger rounded on every one they burst into flames. The myrdraal turned and ran off into the night. At that point the ring of light on his finger dulled to black deeper than even the darkest the Ways ever were.
Ziel turned and went back to his house. He entered and went to his wife lying dead on the floor. He picked her up and took her outside. He walked up to a small bluff that overlooked the woods and in the distance the ocean. "Railyn loved being up here...this is where the burial ceremony will be." Ziel then stripped the earth of grass, and then dug into it. He dug for 3 hours until he was satisfied. He got out of the hole and the village was standing around him. They each carried flowers, or beads. Ziel's eyes watered and he bit back tears. Then one person came forward, he held a large blanket he smiled at the man and took it. He went back to Railyn and began wrapping the body, when he saw the ring. He didn't fight it anymore and he began to cry openly. He didn't care who saw him, the quarterstaff champion. He took the ring and placed it in his pocket. He finished wrapping Railyn's body and he placed her into the grave he made for her. He let everyone drop flowers or beads on top of her. And in turn they hugged Ziel or kissed him on the cheek. Some widows felt his pain. And some had just became widowed but no males were widowed, only women. He should have been there. Should have been there to protect her. When everything was done Ziel covered the body in the dirt he dug out.
He stood there looking at the grave when the mayor came up behind him. He gave Ziel his weapons and his clothes long with a horse and two saddle bags full of food. Ziel looked at the mayor and opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted by the mayor saying, "Ziel. You have done more for this village than i could ever say. She was a darkfriend. I tried to warn you but, you brought her back to the light Ziel. You saved her. There are more clothes inside your trunk now go to the black tower. Ride and help destroy the shadow. Ziel nodded with tears still on his cheek he took his trunk and the reigns of the horse and ran.
Ziel not only ran towards the black tower, but away from his life. He wanted to remember her but not where they had spent there love together. They had been one in body as well as mind. He loved her, more than life itself. But he knew that suicide was not the answer. He knew about bonding and he wouldn't. He would avenge his wife by training and destroying the shadow. He could only barely feel the horse by his side the reigns in his arms. He ran that entire day and at night he stopped in a small village. There he looked into the trunk and found each outfit as extravagant as the last. Each with the bird of fire of it. There was a note on the bottom. It was made out to Ziel in Railyn's handwriting. It said: 'Dear love, if you are reading this than you are likely far away from our home and i have died. These clothing were sewn for you my love, you are my phoenix. You brought me light when i only had the shadow. It may have killed me, but i died, alive. I am free my love, now you be free as well. Go after your dreams, that's my final request. I love you Ziel al'Rhan take care. Yours in spirit, Railyn al'Rhan.' Ziel's eyes watered and he cried once more. He wanted to be with her more than anything...but she had told him to follow his dreams. At that is the black tower. "Yes my love. Your request will be fulfilled, gratefully, and for you my love." Ziel slept of times past, of the harvest festival, and of the wedding. He awoke and packed his trunk, shut and locked it, and went out. He got his horse and went out of town. He saw a man trying to sell a small chain as he left. He smiled and went over to the man tossed him a gold mark and took the chain. He would put the ring on as soon he rested for the next time. With his daggers at his side and his ashandari blade on his back, he ran for 6 weeks, never stopping, eating while he ran, and feeding the horse while it ran. His anger and determination the only things that kept him going. He soon came to the place where he learned the tower would be.
He walked into the square and found a man who sold swords. Ziel told the man to give him one that would fit him. The man looked him over smiled and gave him a weapon. It had a long blade maybe o
ne span, and its hilt was a little more than one foot. The man said it was a katana, a blade that could cut through silk by just letting it fall on the blade. He showed Ziel and he asked how much it was. The man shook his head and said, "i can tell much more than that, i can tell why you can use this blade. A loved one died close to you, very close. You are going to the black tower to train, well. Best of luck my friend the sword is free." Ziel smiled thanked the man and went towards the tower. What Ziel didn't see on the hilt of the sword was a small ruby and set inside a small skull. He also boughtfive pairs of battle knives and as soon as he got them he put them in up his sleeves 2 pairs in his boots one in his belt hidden by his cloak and one pair that he blaced inside his cloak. The dealer looked at Ziel then at wear he hid the knives and then at Ziel's eyes and hair. He smiled and the dealer turned and mumbled something about hiding weapons and Aiel. On the way to the tower he led his horse into the stables he took the saddle bag, placed it over his shoulder and went to the tower. He stood in front of the doors, took a deep breath, placed his trunk on his knees, opened the doors, took a grip on his trunk carrying his many cloaks and pants and 2 pair of shiny leather boots (white and black), and walked through to start the next chapter in his life.
Physical description
He has waist long, straight, silver hair. His eyes are red as the deep ruby, or that of blood and when angered it becomes cloudy and turns a deep maroon. His skin is pale white, it will never burn, but it will also never tan. He has a scar across his right cheek. His muscles are all defined, not too large, but also not anywhere near small. He wears a power wrought ring on the middle finger of his right hand, and a gold ring on the second fnger of his left hand. He also wears a ring on a silver chain around his neck. Wears two twin daggers at his waist along with a katana at his left side, and he wears an ashandari blade on his back.
Personality
Ziel is very set back and doesn't speak unless spoken to often having eyes downcast. He can be very outspoken about his ideas and never falters in his beliefs. Ziel is a gambler and lets luck and skill guide him. He had been hurt beyond repair and very little gets to him emotionally, even death barely fazes him. Ziel stands up for any woman, and if they are being hurt emotionally or physically he will step in, even if he hates the woman. Often is lost in daydreams and during these he will muter incoherantly that only a wolfbrother/sister could make out, and would clench his fists.
Weaknesses
Ziel's emotions often get run over and memories seem to spring up at different times. He can be a little too outspoken, and his absent of knowledge culture often leaves people wondering who he is. Clumsy with the sword even though he insists on using it. Women are Ziel's biggest weakness, especially if a woman is in need. Death to the innocent will cause him to become blinded by fury (happens rarely, but will happen).
Weaponry
Spear, daggers, quarter staff, ashandari blade, katana (no experience but will be his main weapon of choice.)
