History:
Shylde Lomere was the third son in a merchant family that came from Arad Doman, but that had settled on Almoth Plain just outside of Katar. While on a buisness trip to Saldaea, he was suduced by a beautiful red haired, green eyes, young, saldaean woman. He fell in love, married her and brought her back home with him.
Shyldes family didn't like his choice one bit. First of all he had married down, and second of all to a woman they didn't know! It started a feud in the family and it soon ruptured. All except for Shylde and Shylde's younger sister moved back to Arad doman. He in turn started to completely ignore his family and concentrated on his work and wife.
Bida Lomere had grown up in the country. She knew how to handle a house, home and animals, but work outside of that wasn't something she knew how to do, so she became a stay at home wife and soon also a stay at home mother.
Nevira was born on Bel Tine and named the very same day. She was a very active girl, constantly bubbling over with joy and getting herself in trouble. She loved animals and started to learn how to ride at the age of five.
Then suddenly war broke out over the territory of Almoth Plain.
It lasted for 2 years before it was finally over. During it the tarabonian generals had not only battled the soldiers, but they had sorted the population were ever they saw fit. When they reached Katar Bida had taken Nevira and run already, past the soldiers lines and towards Tanchico, but Shylde was left behind. He was killed by the soldiers along with all the other Arad Doman settlers.
As before Bida had a problem with adapting to working at a different place then a farm. Being unable to support her child she talked to the owner of a menagerie that was currently passing Tanchico. Neviras agility for acrobatics came in good hands and she was adopted in by the acrobatics family. The girl was no more then 9 at the time when she left her mother.
The menagerie travelled south first, round the mountains and further east towards Altara. Along the way they set up shows in towns and cities large enough to attract a crowd. On the road Nevira got to know her new family better and started to feel as if they were her own. Her new parents, Arid and Doveny, were not very old, but as a couple they had given up thoughts of having their own kids after years of trying. Before Nevira they had already taken in two boys that they were training in their trade, Bareth and Arvance. Bareth came from Altara. He was about 5 years older then Nevira and quite a clown. Arvance was from Cairhien, he had grown up in the capital there. The two boys became Neviras closest friends, and the closest thing she ever had felt to a brother.
When Nevira was 17 years old, the menagerie was traveling from Shol Arbela, in Arafel, to Fal Moran, in Shienar, they where attacked by a small horde of trollocks. They would all have died if a shienerian troup hadn't been tracking the horde. The only survivors though were the former owner, Arvance and Nevira. They were brought to Fal Moran and from there they had to care for themselves.
Arvance still had friends in Cairhien so he took Nevira with him and they went there. Traveling along the road they worked at farms earning some food and roof over their heads when ever they could and eventually they reached the capital, Cairhien.
Arvances friends weren't quite what they had expected, but never the less they where offered a place to stay and work, though not as lawful as they were used to. Both Arvance and Nevira were taught the criminal way of life and due to their background became quite good at it all.
The day before Nevira turned 24,
she and Arvance scored a big deal that would feed them for months and allow them to stay low for a while. So along with the other festivities they went to celebrate. The guards had set up competitions outside of town and Arvance thought they should go and watch.
At the competition, while watching a sword fight, a man started flirting with Nevira. Nevira ignored him but the man didn't know when to stop. Arvance stepped in between, trying to fend off the situation, knowing Neviras temper when pushed to far. The man only started off a fight with Arvance though. Nevira got annoyed and soon not only Nevira, Arvance and the over flirtagous man were in the fight, also three other men, most likely friends of the strange man, had gotten involved as well. They were pulled away from each other by the guards and pulled aside to cool off.
Later that evening the two had been released and allowed back in town. They went to an inn to have dinner and a few drinks. They had been enjoying themselves for a while when two men, stonefaced warriors, came to join them at their table. The men talked to Arvance and Nevira, about this and that and the conversation about Arvance and Neviras last fight came up. First now did the two youngsters realize that the two men had seen them fight there. The men asked about certain things they had done and as they were explaining what they had been thinking it came clear.
The men were mostly interested in Arvance. Nevira was included in the conversation, but it was clear the men were old fasioned about females in battle of any kind. Eventually a third man came up to them, at the side of a woman. The woman was quite beautiful and seemed to have been enjoying herself this evening, at least that was Neviras judgment from the way people looked at the woman. She and the three strange men left, but Arvance was encouraged to meet one of the men at this in three days later. Nevira didn't like the sound of that in the least.
Two days later Arvance had been out in town to get food for the day. He had been attacked by an other gang of thieves roaming the town and badly hurt. He just managed to get back home to Nevira before he bleed to death. Shook up and in grief Nevira left the next day to go to the inn. Arvance had been set on going there, no matter what Nevira had thought and even asked Nevira to come along with him. She felt obligated to tell the men of Arvance fate.
Showing up at the inn there weren't that many people arround. The man who wanted to see Arvance came late and took Nevira with him to a side room. Nevira explained the situation just before the woman came through the door. The woman ignored Nevira completely and told the man to get the horses, they were leaving. The man hurriedly went off without needing further explination. Nevira though looked at the woman wondering what this was all about. The woman, left waiting for the men to arrive back sat down in a chair. She eyed Nevira and Nevira watched the woman back. Eventually the woman broke the silence. "My warders tells me you and your friend are good fighters." Nevira rose and eyebrow at the woman but didn't speak. "They'd like to bring Arvance back to the tower for training." Nevira twitched at that and the woman continued with asking her what Neviras feelings of the situation was. "Considering that Arvance met his fate yesterday.... I guess it's no longer a concern." Nevira answered the woman who didn't show sign of feeling the way she had three days ago. The face of the woman was a serene and expressionless as a pond of water on a windless day. "You then?" The woman asked suddenly and Nevira didn't understand at all. "What about you? Would you train with the Gaidin?" Nevira blinked. Suddenly she realized that in the midst of her grief she had forgotten to listen properly, but now the pieces fell together. This was an Aes Sedai, the three men were her warders and they had wanted Arvance to become one of them. Nevira wondered shortly what they would have said if they had known that Arvance and her were thieves, but she had the sanity not to even mention it. "Isn't fighting with weapons a business of men, Aes Sedai?" Nevira asked. "It seems as if your Gaidin thinks so." The woman laughed softly. "Yes, they certainly have that opinion, but being shienerian all of them it's hardly hard to understand were that comes from. But I didn't ask about their opinions I asked about yours." Nevira stood quiet for a moment pondering an answer, and thinking of what the woman was actually asking. Going with them would mean I'd get away from here.... Arvance death will mean trouble... and.... The pain of thinking of her close friend in such terms made her heart pound hard. But Arvance had taught her that she had to do what she could to stay alive. Remembering family was something you could do when you had time left over. Telling the Aes Sedai she would like to train with the Gaidin she recieved a smile and an other soft laughter. "Then come along child, we're in a hurry."
They certainly had been in a hurry when they left Cairhien, why was something Nevira didn't know. The Gaidin had gotten an extra horse for Arvance and, as Nevira had accepted the challenge of training with Gaidin, the Aes Sedai had let her have the horse. For over a week they were traveling fast and hard. But after that the pace slowed. Eventually they had reached Tar Valon, gotten Nevira to the Garrison and left her there. The Aes Sedai's Gaidin had no interest in her, but Nevira could handle herself. That she was here was a fluke, but she would do the best she could of it. Perhaps she would be able to leave her days as a thief behind. She had never liked doing what she had done after all. Perhaps she could find a new way to live, here at the Towers.
